Seahee Chang

장세희는 자연, 기후, 기술, 인간 인식의 상호 관계를 탐구하는 미디어 아티스트이다. 그의 작업은 기후가 자연의 형상을 바꾸듯 인간의 삶과 의식 또한 자연의 영향 아래 놓여 있다는 통찰에서 출발한다. 인간은 자연과 분리된 존재가 아니라 그 일부이자 변화 가능한 표현으로 이해된다.

그의 대표 시리즈 〈기후의 세계(The World of Climate)〉는 이러한 인식에서 전개된다. 장세희는 자연의 섭리 안에서 존재할 수 있는 새로운 생명체를 상상하고, 이를 시각적·감각적 언어로 구현한다. 그녀가 구축한 세계는 환상적이기보다, 자연과 기술, 데이터가 맞물려 작동할 때 생성될 수 있는 또 다른 감각적 현실의 확장이다.

작가는 인공지능 시스템과 센서, 데이터 알고리즘을 통해 공기, 빛, 온도, 진동 등 비가시적 에너지를 시각화하며, 이를 통해 감각의 확장과 생명적 반응을 유도한다. 시리즈에 등장하는 눈 형태의 유기체는 촉수를 통해 빛과 대기의 흐름을 감지하며, 인간의 시선이 아닌 감각적 인식을 수행한다. 이는 〈기후의 세계〉 전체를 구성하는 유기적 생태계의 일부로 존재하며, 자연과 기술의 경계를 넘나드는 가능성을 탐구한다.

Seahee is a media artist whose practice explores the relationship between
nature, climate, technology, and human perception. Her work begins with the idea that, just as climate shapes the natural world, it also affects human life and consciousness. From this perspective, humanity is not separate from nature but an extension of it, one of its many mutable expressions. This belief forms the foundation of The World of Climate, an ongoing universe of works where Seahee envisions and gives form to living entities that could exist within the logic of nature itself. These imagined organisms are not fantastical; rather, they are plausible extensions of the sensory systems that might emerge if nature, technology, and data were to evolve together.
Each of her installations visualizes the invisible energies of air, light, temperature, and vibration through the language of technology. Using AI systems, sensors, and data-driven algorithms, Seahee constructs environments where these elemental forces generate forms of life. In the current presentation, one of these beings takes the shape of an eye-like organism with tentacle-like extensions that respond to light and atmospheric shifts. This entity does not see in the human sense but perceives subtle flows of matter and energy. It belongs to a larger ecosystem of creatures that will continue to evolve across the series, each expressing a different sensory capacity within Seahee’s expanding world.
