Serin Oh

오세린은 원본과 복제, 현실과 가상, 인간과 자연과 같은 이분법적 구분이 어떻게 생성되고 유지되는지를 탐구하며, 이러한 경계가 충돌하고 불안정해지는 지점에 주목한다. 자본주의 시스템에 내재된 모순에서 출발한 작가의 작업은 반복되는 생산과 소비의 구조를 포착하고, 이를 단서로 삼아 기존의 서사를 해체하고 재구성한다.

작업은 현장 기반 리서치를 토대로 영상, 사진, 텍스트 작업으로 전개되며, 금속, 흙, 밀랍 등 물성이 강하게 드러나는 재료로 제작된 오브제 작업과 함께 이루어진다. 개념적 사유를 물질과 직접적으로 접속시키는 과정을 통해, 작가는 고정된 이분법이 흔들리고 견고해 보였던 인식의 체계가 균열되는 순간을 시각적으로 드러낸다.

오세린은 서울대학교에서 동양화 및 금속공예·주얼리 전공으로 학사 학위를, 금속공예·주얼리 전공으로 석사 학위를 취득하였다. 서울을 기반으로 활동하며 BYFOUNDRY, 숨아트스페이스, 경남도립미술관 등에서 개인전을 개최하였고, 국립현대미술관(MMCA), 서울공예박물관, N/A, CR Collective, 공간 파도 등에서 열린 다수의 단체전과 스크리닝 프로그램에 참여하였다. 또한 Taoxichuan Art Center, K-Arts Residency Creative Studio, Art District_p 등 국내외 레지던시 프로그램에 선정된 바 있다. 작품은 국립현대미술관(MMCA), 푸른문화재단, Taoxichuan Art Center 에 소장되어 있다.

Serin Oh examines structures in which binary distinctions-such as original and replica, reality and virtuality, human and nature- are produced and maintained, focusing on the moments where these boundaries collide and become destabilized. Drawing from

contradictions embedded in capitalist systems, she identifies recurring patterns of production and consumption and uses them as points of departure to dismantle and reconfigure established narratives.

Her practice is grounded in site-based research and unfolds through video, photography, and text, alongside objects made from materially charged substances such as metal, clay, and wax. By bringing conceptual inquiry into direct contact with physical matter, Oh’s work reveals how fixed dichotomies lose stability and how seemingly solid modes of perception begin to fracture.

Oh received her B.F.A. in Oriental Painting and in Metalwork and Jewelry, and her M.F.A. in Metalwork and Jewelry from Seoul National University. Based in Seoul, she has held solo exhibitions at BYFOUNDRY, Seum Art Space, and Gyeongnam Art Museum, and has participated in group exhibitions and screening programs at institutions including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, N/A, CR Collective, and Space Pado. She has been selected for residencies at Taoxichuan Art Center, K-Arts Residency Creative Studio, and Art district _p, among others. Her works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), the Pureun Culture Foundation, and Taoxichuan Art Center.
