임현중(b. 2001) 은 오래된 SF 가 지닌 디스토피아적 상상력을 도구 삼아 동시대 의 풍경을 해체하며, 현재를 이미 지나가 버린 미래의 한 장면으로 재배열하는 작업에 집중한다. 작가는 스스로 빛을 내는 디지털 스크린의 매끄러움에 저항하 여, 유화 안료를 촘촘히 쌓아 올린 질감을 통해 외부의 빛을 굴절시키고 되돌려보내는 회화의 물질적 실체감을 탐구한다.

 

그는 느슨한 서사를 바탕으로 현재와 미래가 중첩되는 지점을 포착한 <빛바랜 미래> 연작과 작가 자신의 고향을 소재로 한 <Lagrangian home> 시리즈, 그리고 다양한 기계적 구조물들을 아카이브한 <육오점하나오삼 65.153> 시리즈를 통해 독자적인 평면 회화 세계를 구축하고 있다. 촘촘한 붓질로 완성된 그의 작업은 무한히 가속하는 시대 속에서 무게감을 가진 자신만의 ‘느린 세계’를 만들어가는 과정이다.

 

Im Hyunjoong(b. 2001) uses the dystopian imagination of vintage science fiction as a tool to deconstruct contemporary landscapes, focusing on works that rearrange the present into a scene from a future that has already passed. Resisting the smoothness of self-illuminating digital screens, the artist explores the materiality of painting—specifically, how it refracts and reflects external light through the dense, layered texture of oil paint.

 

Through the <Redshifted Future> series, which captures the points where the present and future overlap based on a loose narrative; the <Lagrangian home> series, inspired by the artist’s hometown; and the <65.153> series, which archives various mechanical structures, he is constructing a unique world of two-dimensional painting. His works, executed with dense brushstrokes, represent a process of creating his own “slow world”—oneimbued with a sense of weight—amidst an era of endless acceleration.
